ADMINISTRATIVE HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH:
Thaddeus Holownia was born in England in 1949. He attended the University of Windsor where he studied printmaking and communications, graduating in 1972. He then taught for one year as a sessional instructor in the Communication Studies Department. He served with the National Film Board of Canada, and was with the Private Eye Studio in Toronto, Ontario, from 1974 until 1977, when he joined the faculty of the Mount Allison University Fine Arts Department. He has had numerous exhibitions of his works (group and solo) from 1972 to the present, including solo exhibits at the Owens Art Gallery in 1976 and 1982/83; in St. John's, Newfoundland, and the Drabinsky Gallery, Toronto, Ontario, in 1993

SCOPE AND CONTENT:
Fonds consists of records created by photographer and publisher
Thaddeus Holownia. Fonds is arranged in three series:
Series 1 - contains negatives produced by Thaddeus Holownia for the sesquicentennial publication "The History of Mount Allison University, 1839-1989", 1989. Not all of the images appearing in the publication are represented in this accession. Many were produced from photographs in the archives holdings, a few from other sources (possibly the Alumni Office), and others from his own photograph/negative collection. Where more then one negative for an image was produced, the one used for publication in not identified.
Series 2 - contains material related to exhibitions; publications with Thaddeus Holownia's photography; and published or printed by the Anchorage Press.
Series 3 - contains a copy of "Dykelands, photographs by Thaddeus Holownia & Poems by Douglas Lochhead", published by McGill-Queen's University Press, 1989; and photographs, including plates for "Dykelands", a portrait of Thaddeus Holownia, and Douglas Lochhead and a panoramic view made up of three photo prints.
