Frank
B. Black, was one of Sackville’s business elite, having several
businesses and investments in the region. Among these interests was
a farm and in this document and others making up this file, we see evidence
that he maintained a correspondence with officials in the New Brunswick
Department of Agriculture reporting on pest damage and seeking advice
on how to combat them. In this memo he describes his experience with
the army worm over several seasons. Apart from the challenges posed
by these pests, the exchange highlights the increasing role of government
agencies and their technical experts in the support of farming. |
