In
this letter the Chairman of the Maritime Marshlands Reclamation Commission
confirms the power of expropriation available to the marsh bodies under
the new provincial legislation and suggests that the best way to transfer
title of land is by having the affected farmers simply sign over any
claim to title to the provincial government. What is not clear from
this group of documents is whether there was any opposition to these
new mechanisms for dyked marsh maintenance and development. Presumably,
the prospect of provincial government funding, to replace local taxes
and labour, was sufficient inducement for farmers to support the changes. |
