Former Head Instructor - 2001 - 2002 Hello Everybody. I feel very fortunate to have been on the MASSIE teaching staff since the programme began in September, 2000. I came to Mount Allison after a 26-year career teaching English Literature in Dartmouth schools, and two years as a practicum supervisor for aspiring English teachers at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax. I cherish the memories of time spent with former MASSIE students and look forward very much to the many hours I will share with those who have not yet made their first trip to Sackville and Mount A. How lucky I am to have a large and growing number of very special friends in Japan. |

Former Instructor Teaching with the MASSIE Program is a wonderful experience. Everyday
I am impressed by the amazing progress our students are able to make in
such a short amount of time. The added bonus of teaching such an interesting
group of students is that I am also able to learn about Japanese culture
and society. It is a very rewarding experience. |

Former Instructor The power of knowledge is tremendously important. However, the utilization of that power for greatness in bettering others and yourself, is even more valuable. I came from Wallace, on the beautiful Sunrise Trail, in Nova Scotia. Our population may be small, but our sense of community cannot be surpassed. It is here with my family I have learned, that by building self-worth, inclusiveness, and responsibility, people become uplifted, encouraged, and ultimately ~ earth-movers. It is this sense of belonging, life-long learning, and community that motivates my classroom. Having a diverse background in subject matter and various experiences with all age groups and cultures, I am excited to share my personal knowledge, while learning and growing alongside my students and colleagues. We all have arole in our global community and I am thrilled to be part of the MASSIE family, building memories and connections to last a life-time!

Former Instructor I come from Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia, about a one hour drive from Sackville. I graduated from Mount Allison University with my B.A. and B.Ed. I have over 25 years of teaching experience, in a variety of settings. I have lived and taught in Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Quebec, Ontario and New Brunswick. I have been an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher for over seven years. I moved back to Sackville a few years ago and I am very happy to be living here and working with the MASSIE students.

My life has been full of happy accidents; MASSIE is one of them. After a career of various teaching positions with APSEA Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing I was enjoying a retirement filled with reading ( especially Canadian fiction), crafts ( rughooking, sewing for the grandchildren, knitting, basketweaving) and travel. Then, because my husband taught with the program in 2000, I encountered MASSIE. A short period of substitute teaching in the fall of 2003 hooked me. So now, happily and accidentally, I am working with the most willing, capable and enthusiastic students and staff that I have ever met. |

Instructor As a graduate of Mount Allison it is a pleasure to be back on the campus teaching with the MASSIE Program. After having my son Nolan in 2001 I enjoyed some time at home with my new child. Teaching English as a Second Language is a challenge that I have enjoyed facing throughout my teaching career. Having taught ESL in South Korea, at Amherst Regional High School and with the first MASSIE session of 2000, I continue to look forward to sharing and learning with my students. |
