Symphonic Band

Conducted by James Kalyn, the Symphonic Band performs a wide variety of challenging works from the wonderful repertoire for full band, and also includes works from the long tradition of large chamber and serenade literature. Participation is encouraged from any Mount Allison student, and from community members who demonstrate a high level of musicianship and commitment. Symphonic Band is a great way to continue the use and refinement of your musical and intellectual skills in an upbeat atmosphere that brings together people from many disciplines in the spirit of liberal arts and the pursuit of excellence.

Time: Monday and Wednesday, 6:00-7:30 pm

2012-2013 Auditions:

Auditions will be held on Saturday September 1 through Tuesday September 4. Both new and returning members must sign up for and play a 10-minute audition. Sign-up sheets are posted outside Rm. 108 in the Music Conservatory (MYBC). If you are unsure about your schedule, the time commitment, the level of difficulty, or the audition process please contact Dr. Kalyn and discuss your concerns, but sign up to audition in any case. An audition form will be available for you to complete and bring to the audition.

Audition requirements and materials are provided below as a downloadable PDF. Printed copies are also available in MYBC Rm. 108. Prepare the excerpts slowly and carefully, paying attention to detail such as articulation and tuning.
NOTE:  if you find an excerpt to be too difficult, simply play it slower. It is far more important to be accurate than to be fast.
If you have any questions about the audition materials or want help with their preparation please contact James Kalyn at (506) 364-2382, jkalyn@mta.ca.
