Music Computer Lab - Rules

Our Lab room and the equipment in it have been made possible by the generosity of donors who believe it important to support your development as students and musicians. We would not have this Lab without their kind support. Please do your best to look after the Lab and the equipment.

The following Lab rules were developed jointly by Music students and faculty.

  • The Lab is meant for Music students who are doing academic and musical work only. Computers in the Student Lounge are for recreational computing (e-mail, chat, etc.)
  • Do not share the door-lock combination with students not in Music courses.
  • No food and drink (except bottled water) are permitted in the Lab.
  • Lab furniture and equipment must not be taken out of the Lab.
  • Do not put your feet up on Lab chairs or desks; this quickly makes them dirty.
  • Do not store your personal equipment in the Lab.
  • Use headphones when listening to sounds from the computers or MIDI keyboards, so as not to bother other Lab users. Headphones may be purchased cheaply in many places.
  • Transfer any files you wish to save to a portable flash drive, or use your M: drive to store your files securely. See the Lab notice board or the Department Web site for instructions on logging into your M: drive.
  • When you finish with a computer:
    • Log out of the Guest account you've been using, so that other users do not gain access to files on which you've been working.
    • slide the workstation trays in and leave the desk and chair tidy for the next user.
