A
recent arrival to New Brunswick, Ms. Goodwin held the
position of principal oboist of the Niagara Symphony
until April 2012, and has previously held principal
positions with the Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber Orchestra
and Korean Canadian Symphony Orchestra. She is currently
employed by Symphony New Brunswick as an outreach chamber
musician, which includes the development and performance
of both educational outreach programs and a full chamber
music concert series. She also fills the second oboe
and English Horn chair as a 'permanent substitute'.
Christie is currently one of the joint founders of a
Moncton-based woodwind quintet who perform under the
cooperative banners of Symphony New Brunswick and Université
de Moncton. She also continues to be a member of the
Niagara Winds woodwind quintet, performing annually
on the Gallery Players of Niagara chamber series in
St. Catharines, Ontario. As a freelance musician, Christie
has played with ensembles throughout Ontario including
the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, Opera Ontario, the
Windsor Symphony Orchestra and the National Academy
Orchestra in Hamilton.
Christie has been featured with orchestras both as
an oboe soloist and an English Horn soloist on multiple
occasions, most notably working on the Vaughan-Williams
Concerto for Oboe with the esteemed Maestro John Morris
Russell.
Originally from small-town Alberta, Ms. Goodwin completed
her Bachelor’s of Music in oboe performance at
the University of British Columbia with teacher Beth
Orson of the Vancouver Symphony, and the Artist's Diploma
program at the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory
with former Toronto Symphony Orchestra principal, Richard
Dorsey. She has participated in multiple masterclasses,
workshops and summer programs, including Domaine Forget
and the Bowdoin Summer Music Institute.
When not performing, Christie teaches oboe every afternoon
at the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra's 'Sistema' program,
teaches woodwinds methodology at Mount Allison University,
and makes her home in Dieppe with her young family.
