Following graduation from Saint Francis Xavier University in 1999, Shawn opened Bostick Drum Studio. Fueled with a passion to incite greatness in his students, Shawn developed his own curriculum for drumset and mallet percussion study. In 2002, Shawn added a new element to his studio teaching, inviting his dedicated students to be in DRUMBA, Sackville’s first Percussion Ensemble.
Since DRUMBA’s inception, they have recorded two CDs, toured many maritime schools playing to thousands of children and performed several community concerts. They have received excellent reviews from Adjdicators at the Sackville Music Festival.
Shawn was delighted when he and wife Tanya opened the Bostick School of Music, offering Music for Young Children, Piano and Percussion Instruction.
Shawn belongs to the Percussive Arts Society, the Canadian Music Educators Association, the Nova Scotia Music Educator’s Association
and is an active member of the Sackville Music Teachers Association. Shawn also belongs to the East Coast Music Association, Music New Brunswick and CARAS.
Shawn has performed in a wide variety of genres, both as ensemble performer and soloist. Most recently, Shawn performed with the Atlantic Wind Orchestra in Halifax.
Along with Shawn’s studio activities, he is also the Atlantic Regional Director of the Canadian Music Centre; a national non-profit organization which promotes and encourages the performing and exposure of Canadian music.
