Journalists for Human Rights presents John Gaudi, Nov. 15

SACKVILLE, NB — Journalists for Human Rights (JHR) is pleased to welcome John Gaudi to Mount Allison University. Gaudi will give a special presentation on Wednesday, November 15 at 5 p.m. in the Avard Dixon building, room 118. His talk is entitled “Using the media to protect and promote human rights: A look at Ghana and Canada” and everyone is welcome to attend.
John Gaudi is a recent graduate in journalism from the University of King’s College in Halifax. Currently, he has been working as a freelancer for CBC Radio, also spending time dabbling in television and the media arts. His passion for radio was first sparked as a master’s student at the University of Guelph where he was a programmer at the community/campus radio station, CFRU 93.3 FM. For as long as he can remember, he has been interested in human rights, globalization, and community issues. He completed an undergraduate degree at Trent University in Anthropology and International Development studies, during which time he spent a year in Southeast Asia.
For his master’s at Guelph, John investigated cultural and development issues in a rural Amerindian community in Guyana. Prior to leaving for South America, he’d always have to clarify, “Guyana. Not Ghana.” Having been a JHR volunteer in Ghana, he’s now happy to talk about his experiences in both places. In Ghana, John worked at a regional television and radio station called Skyy Power FM.
The documentary is John’s favourite form of storytelling, and he hopes one day to be able to make documentaries all the time. His latest documentary is called To Remember and Remind, a story about the Hungarian Revolution, which aired on CBC Radio’s The Current this October.
Journalists for Human Rights is a Canadian organization that aims to use media to change society, with an emphasis on West Africa (www.jhr.ca).
