Violinist Kerry DuWors to present recital Oct. 27

One of Canada’s promising young violinists will perform in Sackville, NB when Kerry DuWors presents a recital in Brunton Auditorium at Mount Allison University on Monday, October 27, at 8:00 p.m. DuWors is the recent winner of the Eckhardt-Gramatté National Music Competition, and her recital in Sackville is part of her winner’s tour.
Named for Canadian composer Sophie-Carmen Eckhardt-Gramatté, the “E-Gré” is one of Canada’s most prestigious competitions. Many previous finalists have gone on to establish careers as concert artists; they include pianist Jon Kimura Parker, tenor Ben Heppner and violinist Jasper Wood.
From Saskatoon, Kerry DeWors studied with Ann Elliott-Goldschmid at the University of Victoria and more recently with Lorand Fenyves at the University of Toronto. Apart from top honours at the Eckhardt-Gramatté Competition, DeWors has received numerous awards and accolades. Just 23 years old, she has already worked with many of Canada’s most accomplished musicians and performing groups. Her success has recently been confirmed with the loan of a valuable violin from the Canada Council Music Instrument Bank. DeWors is currently teaching at Brandon University.
Pianist Lydia Wong will join Kerry DeWors for this performance. Currently teaching at the University of Toronto, she also regularly collaborates with many of Canada’s top musicians. Heard often in CBC broadcasts, she performers widely in a career that has taken her from Carnegie Hall, New York, to London’s Wigmore Hall.
Among words by Richard Strauss, Aaron Copland, and Eugène Ysaÿe, DeWors and Wong will performed a new work, Coriolis by Alberta composer Allan Gordon Bell. This work was commissioned for this year’s Eckhardt-Gramatté Competition.
