SACKVILLE, NB — Mount Allison University officially wrapped up its JUMP Mount Allison fund raising campaign on Friday, Oct. 12 — two years ahead of schedule and $10 million over target.

The Campaign — the largest in the University’s history — was launched in 2004 with the aim of raising $86 million over 10 years. Instead, a total of $96 million was amassed in just eight years.

“I continue to be amazed at the generosity of the Mount Allison community,” says Campaign chair Scott McCain, President and Chief Operating Officer of the Agribusiness Group at Maple Leaf Foods. “Much of the success came through leadership gifts from long-time supporters, but we also saw new donors make tremendous contributions, and the support of our alumni — who gave gifts ranging from $10 to $10,000 — was invaluable in helping us reach our goal.”

Of the $96 million raised, more than $30 million is being added to the University’s endowment funds. More than $13 million of that was directed to supporting students in the form of scholarships, bursaries, and awards. At $122 million, Mount Allison has the second-largest university endowment per capita in Canada.

The JUMP Campaign has also provided funding for significant infrastructure projects, such as the Wallace McCain Student Centre, the Ron Joyce Centre for Business Studies, the Harold Crabtree Aqualab: Centre for Aquatic Sciences, and the new Purdy Crawford Centre for the Arts, scheduled to open in September 2014.

“The goal of the JUMP Campaign was to elevate Mount Allison to the next level, to extend the University’s quality, relevance, and effectiveness in a sustainable way for future generations,” says Mount Allison President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Robert Campbell. “We have seen our campus transformed by the funding that we have received through this campaign, in ways that will benefit our students for generations to come.”

The three main priorities of the JUMP Campaign were to invest in people, in spaces, and in stewardship. Former chancellor, lawyer, and businessman Purdy Crawford and the late businessman Wallace McCain served as honorary campaign co-chairs. The campaign was initiated by Mount Allison alumnus and businessman John Bragg, who was serving as chancellor at the time.
