Patrick Losier presented with award at Canada’s Outstanding CEO of the Year Gala Event

SACKVILLE, NB — Patrick Losier, a fourth-year commerce student at Mount Allison University is a recipient of this year’s Future Funds Scholarship, established by Canada’s Outstanding CEO of the Year program. Ten national awards, valued at $5000 each, are presented annually to students at Canada’s Outstanding CEO of the Year Awards Gala, held in Toronto this year.

Losier, originally from Miramichi NB, says, “I’m honoured to receive a Future Funds Scholarship and feel very humbled to have had the opportunity to attend the 2012 CEO of the Year Awards to receive it. The awards gala was inspiring, being together with such accomplished business leaders.”

Tim Hynes, director of the Ron Joyce Centre for Business Studies at Mount Allison says, “Patrick is a dedicated and accomplished student. He has demonstrated an ability to balance a tremendous extracurricular schedule at Mount Allison with the demands of a very challenging degree program. He is a very worthy recipient of the Future Funds Scholarship.”

Losier plans to pursue a career in finance. “My interest is in investment banking, it gives a great opportunity to work closely with clients while at the same time, putting finance skills to good use. I’d love to work on Bay Street. I’m looking at either graduate studies in finance, or, if the opportunity comes up right away, heading straight into the work force. I know Mount A has prepared me well for either direction.”

And he’s already gained some valuable work experience. Last summer Losier secured an internship with Toronto Dominion (TD) Securities in Toronto. He says, “It was a great summer. I got a real insider’s view of finance, with lots of opportunities for networking and meeting new people.”

In addition to a full course load, Losier has served as vice-president, finance and operations for the Mount Allison Students Union for the past two years. He is also the student representative on the Mount Allison Board of Regents investment committee and has been a member of the University’s committee on students with disabilities. In 2011, he travelled to Honduras with Mount Allison Global Brigades and will be working with Mount Allison’s Habitat for Humanity group this year, heading to Alabama to help build a house during the University’s reading week.
