Deborah Margo’s Castings opens at the Owens, Sept. 16
2005-09-12 16:20:29
Margo’s unusual combination of materials such as candy, paper, glass, wood and steel yield some unexpected results for the audience. Subtleties of change—the small variations in the world that become evident with time and reflection— are explored in these materials. An interesting example is “Giant Okeydokes.” Composed of gumballs, this work takes on a life of its own, as they are soaked in water and blossom into unusual forms. Another work entitled “Medical Histories” is composed of finely shredded medical documents. This sculpture and others will be located in the Owens’ main foyer and high wall gallery.
An installation by Margo will also be located at the second floor stairwell of the Mount Allison University Centre, housing the SAC office and Windsor Theatre. This site specific installation consists of a wall drawing by the artist that examines the passing lights from traffic reflected on the stairwell walls.
