Top scholarships announced at Mount Allison University

Over $450K in scholarships awarded to 11 first-year students
SACKVILLE, NB — Mount Allison University, the top undergraduate university in Canada, is attracting some of the country’s best students and beyond with the announcement of the 2010-11 Bell Scholarship, Achievement Award, and Mary Emerancy Pickard Music Scholarship recipients. Valued at $12,000, $9,000, and $6,000 annually for four years, the scholarships are the most prestigious entrance awards at Mount Allison.
Mount Allison University President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Robert Campbell says, “Mount Allison offers one of the strongest and most competitive scholarship and bursary programs in Canada. The Bell Scholars and Achievement Award recipients are an exceptional group of students and we are pleased to welcome them to Mount Allison. I know they will each continue make significant contributions to their communities.”
This year’s Bell Scholarship ($12,000 annually over four years) recipients are: Robin Bessemer, Calgary, AB; Kylie de Chastelain, Georgetown ON; Zack Delaney, Kentville, NS; Kelsey Lauersen, Kintore, ON; Ben Wilson, Quechee, VT; and Maria Wilson, Yarmouth, NS. The 2010-11 Bell Achievement Award ($9,000 annually over four years) recipients are: Ilva Caushi, Halifax, NS; Julia McMillan, Charlottetown, PEI; Bjorn Ostling, Bainbridge Island, WA; and Margaret Ann Reardon, Halifax, NS. Isaac Adams of Prospect Bay, NS received the Mary Emerancy Pickard Scholarship in Music, valued at $6,000 annually for four years.
About the Bell Scholarship and Achievement Awards at Mount Allison University
Established in 2002 as the premier entrance scholarship at Mount Allison, the Bell Scholarship and Achievement Awards celebrate students who have demonstrated strong academic ability, leadership potential, volunteer work, extracurricular activities, work experience, and good citizenship.
Mount Allison students have benefited from the generous contributions to the University made by the Bell Family (and the Bell Endowment Funds) over the years. Their generous support, through such scholarships as the Marguerite Deinstadt scholarships, the Ralph Pickard Bell scholarships, Mary Emerancy Pickard scholarship and various bursaries, has helped finance the academic careers of hundreds of Mount Allison students over the last 50 years, with scholarships and other forms of financial support.
