Position funded by University Chancellor Peter Mansbridge offers students ‘real world’ experience designed to complement academic studies
Mount Allison University students have an exciting new internship opportunity available to them — the Mansbridge Internship. Offered by University Chancellor Peter Mansbridge (LLD ’99), chief correspondent of CBC News, the internship is the richest at Mount Allison, with a value of $10,000.
The Mansbridge Internship, offered to all third-year Mount Allison University students, will allow the intern to develop attitudes, abilities, and skills essential to active participation in an increasingly globalized and interconnected society.
“The internship is meant to provide students with an experience that builds on what they learn in the classroom. ” says Mansbridge. “Such perspective is vital in today’s world.’’
The internship will give students practical experience, building on their academic studies. It will help better prepare Mount Allison University students for future graduate and professional opportunities.
Students selected for the Mansbridge Internship be responsible for developing, planning, and implementing their internship, as well as follow-up activities, including educating fellow students about the experience and lessons learned. Depending on the intern’s plan, academic credit may be available as per the University’s normal academic regulations. Interns will be responsible for seeking the necessary academic approvals should they wish to incorporate academic credit within their internship.
The Mansbridge Internship is administered through Leadership Mount Allison’s Global Connect program. More information and application forms are available at http://www.mta.ca/leadership/mansbridge.html. The deadline for applications is Friday, March 25, 2011. The inaugural Mansbridge Internship recipient will be announced this spring.
