Supporting Dossier for the Tucker Teaching Award
Deadline for Submission: Monday, March 11th, 2013

The contents and format of the Tucker dossier are modelled after those for the Association of Atlantic Universities' Distinguished Teaching Award, for which the Tucker winner becomes the University's nominee in the following year

(N.B. All nominees are strongly encouraged to consult the Purdy Crawford Teaching and Learning Centre as they prepare their dossier.)

Nominations for the Tucker Teaching Awards are now automatically valid for two years; all nominess will be asked if they are willing to let their names stand for a second year and will have the option of updating their dossiers to relfect recent activities and accomplishments.

The Provost and Vice President, Academic and Research, will invite nominees for the Tucker Award to assemble an award dossier. The dossier has 8 sections outlined below comprised of material created by the nominee and material written by his/her nominator and supporters.

The material created by the nominee,
numbers 3-7 below, should not exceed 25 pages in length.

Please submit to the Purdy Crawford Teaching and Learning Centre (pctc@mta.ca) a single copy of your dossier, which contains these items in the following order:

1. Table of Contents
2. The original letter of nomination (clearly marked as such)
3. A summary of activities related to teaching: list of all courses taught, teaching innovations, teaching-related committees, academic advising, etc. You should indicate and explain those courses which you have developed and those which you have significantly re-structured (especially if the course number has remained the same while the content, instructional strategies, and learning outcomes have changed).

4.
A one- or two-page teaching philosophy statement, signed and dated, including details of how this philosophy has been implemented and how it is evidenced by the other materials in the dossier. Use your philosophy statement to explain, for example, why you have chosen to teach in a particular way, what values or principles underpin your teaching choices, and what your future teaching plans are.

5.
A summary of recent student evaluations from at least three courses,
including numerical data and student comments and a brief statement of their context (e.g., class sizes and levels, required or elective). Please consult PCTC about the best way to present this information.

6.
Material evidence to support the case for teaching excellence,
such as course syllabi, sample assignments or handouts (you may include links to online material), descriptions of innovative assignments, teaching workshops attended or presented, participation in academic advising, and so on.

7. Any other material you feel would be helpful to make your case.

8.
Current letters of support (not more than 18 months old):
- Two (but no more than four) letters from present or former students
- Two (but no more than four) letters from colleagues or peers

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

Nominees may solicit the letters themselves, or their nominator or Dean may do so on their behalf.

The letters should be evidence-based, containing concrete examples of the nominee's noteworthy characteristics, activities, and contributions to teaching and learning.

Though the Committee prefers up-to-date letters of support, they recognize this is not always possible for nominees; therefore, they will accept letters up to 18 months old.
The Selection Committee may also request that the nominee provide copies of recent Dean's evaluations of his or her teaching.
Nominees are respectfully reminded to limit their portion of the dossier, numbers 3-7 above, to 25 pages

In exceptional circumstances--if a substantial piece of work does not fit within the dossier format--one copy only may be submitted with the dossier for the Committee to view.

The deadline for the Tucker dossier is Monday, March 11th, 2013.
