The author uses cognitive research to explain principles
of effective multimedia design for learning. Instructions on how to best
use multimedia to improve learning are given, as well as examples of designs
that will impede learning. Most chapters begin with a principle, its theoretical
rationale, and research evidence giving an empirical rationale. Overall
the message is that multimedia presentations with images and narration,
and excluding extraneous material, will lead to improved learning.
