Connect@MTA:Frequently Asked Questions
Where do I find which courses are being offered this year?
Connect@MTA is Mount Allison's information service for students. Here you can access your personal profile (e.g. address, contact information), academic profile (e.g. transcripts, grades), financial information, personalized timetable, and exam schedules. Connect@MTA is also used to register for courses.
Which browsers can I use with Connect@MTA?
From the Connect@MTA software FAQ: "Connect@MTA will operate effectively with the Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer browsers on PCs or Macintoshes. For best results the browsers should be Release 4.x level or later. While Internet Explorer Release 4.x functions satisfactorily on Macintosh platforms, you will achieve a more aesthetic appearance with Release 5."
My account was locked because of too many unsuccessful login attempts.
Wait for six (6) minutes and try again. While waiting, make sure that CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK keys are not on. If your password still does not work, please contact Computing Services at helpdesk@mta.ca
I can't seem to perform any operations in Connect@MTA. Every time I try to do so, it says I must review my profile.
You must update your profile on Connect@MTA before you can register. Here is how you do it:
- Login to Connect@MTA
- From the Main Menu, select Connect for Students
- From the Academic Profile section, select My profile. This will take you to your personal profile.
- Review the information and make changes if necessary (you are not required to make changes if everything looks okay).
- Click on the Submit button to complete your profile verification.
If you do not click on Submit, Connect@MTA will think that you still have not verified your profile and it will continue to restrict you from performing many operations.
After completing the above steps, you should now be able to perform the operation that you couldn't complete originally.
What courses can I register for online?
You can register for any Fall, Winter, or Spring Session undergraduate courses offered at MTA online. For continuing education courses, correspondence courses, or any other courses not mentioned, contact the Registrar's Office at 506-364-2269 for information on how to register.
When can I register for my courses?
In order to avoid overloading the system, each student is assigned a start date/time. These will be communicated via e-mail. Students may make changes to their registration until the end of the Add/Drop period (normally two weeks after the beginning of classes). After this point students may withdraw from classes until the Withdrawal Deadline mid-semester ( for exact dates see the "Calendar of Events" in the Academic Calendar ). This will not result in a "W" on your transcript.
What is the difference between "Express Registration" and "Search and Register"?
If you have already chosen the courses you would like to register for and have the synonyms for each class, "Express Registration" will place these courses in your Preferred sections list without having to search for each individual course.
The "Search and Register" method is useful for finding courses with specific search criteria. You can search for classes by time, professor, subject and more. This method can be useful, but please remember that the system will time-out after a period of inactivity.
What is a "Preferred Sections" List?
The Preferred Sections list is the final step before registration which allows you to assemble a ‘short-list’ or ‘favourites list’ of courses that you are considering but may not be entirely decided on. It saves students from having to go through the search process every time they want to make changes to their schedule. Instead, you can go straight to the Preferred Sections list in the “Register and Drop” page to see the courses they previously selected.
I am unable to register -- it says that I must declare a Major.
Students must declare a major once they have completed a certain number of credits (see the Academic Calendar Section 7.1.2 for details). You must declare a major before Connect@MTA allows you to register for courses. To do so, fill out the Declaration/Addition/Change of Major and/or Minor Form and follow the instructions outlined. Contact the Registrar’s Office for assistance and information.
I clicked on [SUBMIT] but got booted out instead, or got a message about security.
This may happen if you double-click submit or click submit too many times. When clicking submit, do so once and wait for the next screen to appear.
When I tried to register for courses via Connect@MTA, I received a message saying I am not eligible for registration.
This means that there is a restriction placed on your record. You must contact the Registrar’s Office for assistance.
I get this message: "*is required field". What does it mean?
This message appears when you have not entered a value in a required field. Normally the TERM field (Fall or Winter) is a required field.
I received a Multiple Submit Warning. What does it mean?
This message is displayed when the SUBMIT button on any page within Connect@MTA was hit more than once. If you were attempting to make a change to your timetable by adding or dropping a class, check your schedule (my class schedule) to see if your request was processed or not. Press the Menu button in the top right hand corner to continue using Connect@MTA.
Course "TEST-1234-A" prerequisites have not been started.
Connect@MTA is Mount Allison's information service for students. "TEST-1234-A" conflicts with "TEST-2345-A"
This error message can arise if you try to enroll in two classes that occur at the same time, or if a course is listed under two faculties and you attempt to enroll in both. Check the course descriptions and time carefully for any conflicts.
"TEST-1234-A" requires registration in Course TEST-123L OR "TEST-123L" requires registration in Course "TEST-1234"
This message appears when a course has a compulsory lab component, and you have registered for a class but not the lab, or the lab but not the class. Courses end with a number, while labs end with an "L". Consult the Course Offerings List, and look up the course you have just registered for. If a lab is required for that course it will be listed directly under the course with an "L" as the last digit in the course number.
Please be sure that you enroll in all labs for classes that have compulsory lab components.
Student requires instructor's consent to register in "TEST-1234-A".
You require the consent of the instructor before you can enroll in this course. Contact the Department for permission. If permission is granted, the department will contact the Registrar’s Office internally and we will register you for that course.
You are already registered for "TEST-1234-".
Check the Academic Calendar section on overloading to see if you are eligible to overload. If you are eligible and still received this message, contact reghelp@mta.ca
"TEST-1234-A" has no available seats for this registration.
The course you are trying to enroll in is full.
Automated waitlists will be generated at the instructor’s request. Students will be prompted to indicate if they wish to be placed on the waitlist. If a seat becomes available, you will be registered in that course. Please ensure that you do not register for any classes that conflict with the course you are waiting for. If a seat becomes available but registration is not possible due to a conflict with another course, you may lose your place on the waitlist. If you change your mind and no longer wish to be on the waitlist you should remove yourself from the list.
For courses in which no waitlist is being maintained, you should choose another course and check back periodically to see if a seat opens. Should a seat become available, it is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
"You are not eligible for registration. Our records indicate you have not yet paid the required $100 deposit."

According to our records you have an outstanding balance, and cannot register for classes until your balance is paid. Contact the Registrar’s Office at 364-2269 or regoffice@mta.ca for more information.
You may not drop all your classes using this process. If your intention is to withdraw from this institution then you must contact the Registrar's office.
You may see this error message if you attempt to drop all of your courses in order to add new courses. In order to change your schedule, leave at least one course on your schedule at all times.
If you are planning to withdraw before the start of term, contact regoffice@mta.ca, and if it is after the start of term, please contact the Director of Student life studentlife@mta.ca.
