Your Room

You've packed your clothes, and you're ready to go. But now you are probably thinking, What else do I need? Is there anything specifically that I should know about moving into Campbell Hall?

First of all, almost all of Campbell's rooms are single and double en-suites. They share a bathroom between you and your neighbour, which you'll soon learn will be your "suite-mate".

There are 4 rooms that are not double-single ensuites, however. These are the four triples, one on each floor, that, as the name suggests, room three people. They're massive rooms, and contain three times the amount of funiture that a single comes with, which, by the way, is a wardrobe, which has a mirror a few large droors and within it another smaller set of droors, and a bed, which also has some droors.

All of the floors are co-ed, but don't worry about getting a suite-mate of the opposite gender; there'll probably be a suite of the opposite gender opposite your room, but your suite-mate will be the same gender.

Your Furniture

So you're packed and ready to head off to university. Let me guess: the dresser, and the storage boxes and shelves are in the trunk, the television and chair is in the back seat, while your mom is tied to the roof, and there's no room left in the car. First things first, take her down. A lot of the stuff is already here. Here's some of what your room contains:

• Wooden three-drawer captain's bed with a mattress. (Yes they are comfy, but you'll want to bring you own bed cover, and the three drawers can hold quite a bit of clothes!)
• A large computer desk (with a desk lamp).
• A removable pedestal with three more drawers.
• A two-position desk chair that inclines slightly. To your back, it's an advantage, but to your toes—which will get stuck underneath the chair at least fifty times—not so much. Some rooms come, instead, with a grey wheeley chair, which is far more useful, as you'll find it's your main way of transporation about your room. Plus it makes you look really neat.
• A wardrobe. For all the winter clothes that will be needed come... September. Inside the wardrobe there is yet another triplet of drawers, so storage will not be a problem.

The Scenario: It's the night of the big game, or the night of your favourite drama, which would be a problem, had you not been living in Campbell.

Campbell residents each have their own 24" TV. This could be a distraction for some, but a blessing to many.

You've just walked back from town (yes it took all of three minutes) with a case of your favourite beverage. Root beer. You then realize, you have no place to keep your tasty beverage cool. Or do you? Oh yes, all the rooms on campus are also equipped with a mini-fridge.

Your Washroom

After drinking all that root beer, you head to the washroom. There you see:

• A toilet. Each of our toilets has two flush modes... How cool is that!?
• A bathtub/shower and sink. A basic shower curtain is provided, sometimes, and you'll need to change it anyway. Best to go out and spend the $5. As well, you'll have a mirror (for those of you who spend more time looking at that than at the TV).

There are also two more drawers and a large cabinet in the washroom for personal items. No matter what, there will be extra space in them.

Now, I know you have been waiting for the downside. Students are resposible for cleaning their bathrooms. For those of you who like cleaning, this is great, but for those who don't... pray for a good suitemate. All joking aside, you'll probably work out a schedule with your suitemate for cleaning. Nobody likes a person who won't clean their bathroom. The washrooms should be maintained throughout the year, and will be inspected about twice a year.

The Common Areas

Aaaaah how we love the common areas: When that great room of yours gets boring, but the snow outside doesn't coax you to leave the residence.

Campbell has one big lounge on the first floor, which is house to a larger TV, a few vending machines and Bruno the Dog. You'll get to know him, don't worry.

But enough of that tosh; time for the fun part: the study lounge. The study lounge comes with a whiteboard, some desks and some chairs, and is always a quiet place. There are similar lounges on every other floor, but lacking the large whiteboard.

Living a fifteen-second walk from meal-hall, you learn very quickly about the FROSH 15. To combat this, there is a fitness room in the first floor lounge, containing two treadmills, an excercise bike, and weights.

Also on the first floor, for those who will get tired of meal-hall, there is a kitchen (equipped with a stove, and a few other neccessities) for you to go and cook a meal that tastes even better than one at meal-hall.

Don't worry, non-first floor-ers, every floor comes with a small kitchenette, although my lawyers tell me I have to inform you, only the one on the first floor has an oven. The other three have some really nice cabinets though, that nobody uses, an A+ microwave (which really is better than the first floor microwave, which is quite small and doesn't pop popcorn very well) and a large white fridge/freezer.

The Basement

1. That's where all the laundry facilities are. Now I know the picture looks like they're coin-operated, but I promise they totally aren't. If you need the truth, I just don't have any pictures of our real washers and dryers. They are swipe-card operated by your Mountie ID. It is $1.25 per wash and $1.25 per dry.
2. Storage. There is a trunk room available to students. This is used for the huge suitcases that won't fit anywhere, or, when the semesters are over, to store neccessities (so next year you won't have a full car again).

As well, there is a room available for putting your hockey equipment, as you won't want to keep that in your room. Trust me. Seriously. Unfortunately, we cannot keep hockey gear over the summer break.

Though this isn't actually in the basement, it's on the way there. On the first floor, there's a door next to the elevator that takes you down to the basement. On the way down, there's a door which will be house to all student-owned bikes in Campbell.
