Hello, prospective Harperites! I'll be the RA on Second East this year. I'll be in my second year at Mount Allison and working on a History Major (but I switch majors every week!). I'm from Lockeport, Nova Scotia, but I have lived in the Annapolis Valley and Nunavut. I currently reside in Shediac, New Brunswick (And of course Sackville!).
Orientation Week is jam-packed with fun activities, and may seem overwhelming because there is so much going on at once. I'd encourage you to go to every event, though! Don't worry about University life being always as loud as the first week, it really quiets down. Its important to try to meet as many people as possible during Orientation because the friendships you form will last you through your four years at Mount A (And I'm told for the rest of your life, too!).
As a non-drinker, I was very worried about coming into university. While a lot of drinking does take place, there are always non-drinking activities as well. The Harper Exec and the University as a whole does a great job accommodating everyone. If anyone has any reservations, my door is always open to discuss anything. You can also feel free to message me on facebook or text me at anytime of day.
I'm a TV addict (I love Parks & Rec, Doctor Who, Arrested Development, and like a million other shows!), which is great because I love procrastinating. Other things I love are all things Hunger Games, HP, Meryl Streep, and Tegan & Sara. And, of course, who doesn't love staying up all night watching old ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway?' videos on Youtube? That brings me to my first-year tip: If you have any intention of using your computer to load any video, especially Netflix/Youtube, bring an ethernet cord. Bring a LONG Ethernet cord. The internet here is quite slow, and for most rooms, the ethernet plug-in is really far away from your bed. I'd also avoid bringing Wireless printers, because they make the wi-fi connection even slower. Anyway, I can't wait to meet you all this fall! Have a great summer!
