My name is Caroline Kovesi and I'm from Ottawa. I'm entering my second year studying sociology and philosophy. I couldn't be more excited to be your future Third East RA. I cannot wait to meet (or reconnect) with all of you! You will quickly come to fall in love with the charming, little wee town of Sackville, home to the best milkshakes, poetry readings, and swans (Herbert and Muriel). You will also learn that Harper family means Harper loving, and Harper loving is always a good thing. We're here for each other, whether it be at hockey games decked out in black and yellow finery, or in res rooms swaddled in pj's sharing a solid hug. Here's a snapshot of my life: I love rainbow sprinkles, hugs, hats, bows, the movie “Singin' in the Rain,” Audrey Hepburn, E.E. Cummings, canoeing, museums, really good conversations, funny old expressions, orange-creamsicle flavoured goodies, watching thunderstorms, learning new words, dancing, sunshine naps, small children who say funny things, the Muppets, drawing like a five year old (it doesn't matter how hard I try), and unexpected high-fives.
Tips and tricks: Bring lamps (especially a standing lamp). You'll thank me later when you're trying to study at night. Remember that when you sign up for a hundred activities during the Sactivities Fair, it means that you'll be receiving a hundred e-mails later. Lastly, get to know your profs. They are people too, they care about, and want to get to know you, and they will inspire, support, and guide you when you need it the most.
Mount A and Harper Hall are two of my favourite places in the world. “Home is whenever I'm with you” – Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. Welcome home.
