enrollment, then you should visit the Registrar's Office and request one. We are located in the Wallace McCain Student Centre. |
| |
I have registered for half
of the year. Can I still get a Confirmation of Enrollment? |
Although you must register
for the full year in order to receive a letter stating that
you are a full-time student, Registrar's Office
can provide letters confirming enrollment for part-time students,
as well as those who are only registered for one semester.
Each letter will specify your circumstances. |
| |
I don't have a full course
load; why am I still a full-time student? |
At Mount Allison, you are considered
a full-time member of the University community once you have
registered for three courses. You will be charged for full-time

|
You must maintain your eligibility

offer letter. Normally, students must attain a 3.7 GPA on 30.00
credits taken over the Fall and Winter terms. You can contact the
Financial Aid office as well. |

I lost my Student Loan Paperwork! What should
I do? |
Immediately contact your loan
provider (i.e. your provincial government or the National Student
Loan Service Centre) and request new paperwork. Come to the Registrar's Office and notify us of your new financial circumstances,
and we will work with you. |
| |
I have a Student Loan; how can I make the process
easier? |
Always check your MTA mailbox
to see if you've received your Loan documents. Also check your
MTA email, as the Registrar's Office will sometimes try to reach you
that way. Although the Registrar's Office tries to contact students
regarding their loan documentation, you may not have
received your loan documents in the mail, or been notified by
e-mail about them. Come into Regristrar's Office and check often for the arrival of your loan
documentation; the first couple weeks of the semester are often
very busy and your loan documentation may be waiting for you in
our office! |

How will I know what courses to choose?
|
|
Students are encouraged to study
the Academic Calendar carefully to familiarize themselves with the
program offerings and elective choices available. Ultimately it
is the student's responsibility to determine the course of study
chosen. There are Programme Advisors available with whom students
might discuss their interests and options. Counsellors are also
available in the Student Life office to assist students with advising
on long-term goals (graduate school, career opportunities, professional
programmes such as medicine, law, dentistry, veterinary science,
etc.). The Counsellors and Programme Advisors are available by appointment
throughout the year. Programme Advisors are also accessible by phone
or e-mail during the registration period. In addition, the common
pattern of entry-level courses necessary for many programmes (eg.
Science, Fine Arts, Music, Commerce) will be laid out for entering
students in material provided prior to registration.
Academic Advising is available to students who choose to receive it.
Please see the Registration site as well. |
| |
Can I take courses outside of my faculty?
|
Yes, students are encouraged to explore their interests
in various disciplines. |
| |
I wish to take a course at another institution;
what should I do? |
You must apply for, in consultation with the Registrar,
a Letter of Permission. You will be responsible for providing the Registrar's Office with an official and/or complete course description (either
found in the calendar or bulletin of the institution at which you
are hoping to register AND/OR a copy of the syllabus of the
course you would like to take). DO NOT REGISTER FOR COURSES WITHOUT
YOUR LETTER OF PERMISSION. Only an official Letter of Permission assures
that the credits will count towards your Mount Allison Degree. |
|

I am having trouble registering. What's available
to help me? |
|
|
| |
I have received permission to take a course for
which I do not have the pre-requisites, or which requires a departmental
permission to register; now what? |
The permission must be forwarded
from the department to reghelp@mta.ca (if
the permission was granted by e-mail). The registration centre
will register you for the course. If you have received a permission
and find that you are not registered in the course, contact reghelp@mta.ca. |
| |
How can I add or drop courses,
or make other changes to my schedule? Can I do it without
getting a "W" on my transcript? |
In order to add or drop a course, you must use Connect
@ MTA. To avoid receiving a "W" on your transcript,
you must withdraw from a course before the end of the registration
period. You should consult the Academic
Regulations regarding withdrawal from courses. |
| |
I wish to drop a course,
but I don't want a "W" on my transcript. Will it ruin my entire
life? |
No, a "W" on your
transcript will not cause you many problems. If you have "W"s
all over your transcript (ie you drop a course each semester)
your application to graduate schools may suffer; but you
shouldn't be too concerned about having one or two
"W"s on your transcript. |
