  Kwansei Gakuin University

Kwansei Gakuin University was founded in Kobe by the Methodist Episcopal Church of the Southern United States in 1889 as a small private institution to train ministers and provide a general education. In 1908, the Canadian Methodist Church added its support and Kwansei Gakuin became a full college with Departments of Theology, Humanities and Commerce as well as supporting a Middle School.

KGU expanded to include seven Undergraduate Departments, six Graduate Departments and four research institutes. In 1995, a School of Policy was added to KGU, located in Kobe-Sanda. Today, KGU is composed of the university campuses and a senior and a junior high school, totaling 17,000 in population.
