Travelling to Mount Allison

Once you have all the necessary documents, you can make your final travel arrangements. Make sure you book your flights well in advance to ensure that you arrive on the correct day and at the right airport. Sackville's closest airport (30 minutes away) is Greater Moncton International Airport (YQM). If you are arriving at Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ), you will need to take Acadian Buslines to Sackville. It is a 2.5 hour journey.

Once you have this information, let us know that you’re coming so that we can arrange to pick you up at the Moncton Airport. To do so, click here.

Arriving at Your Port of Entry

When you arrive at your port of entry (Customs at the airport) you will be required to go through immigration in order to receive a paper copy of your study permit. Do not forget to go through immigration otherwise you will not receive your study permit and will have to re-enter Canada to obtain it. The length of the immigration process will depend on which airport or border you enter Canada. Have your passport, MTA Acceptance Letter, and Letter of Introduction ready to show the Immigration Officer.

Temporary Accommodation

If you think you may arrive before residences open, you may have to make alternate arrangements for accommodation. To see a complete list of places to stay in Sackville, please visit the Town of Sackville’s website at http://www.sackville.com/visit/accommodations/. Prices for these rooms vary from $50CAD to $250CAD.

Travelling With Money

We do not advise you to travel with large amounts of cash. If you can, try to have your money transferred into a Canadian bank to ensure that you do not lose it in transit. Sackville has two banks: the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) and the Bank of Nova Scotia (ScotiaBank). Credit cards and travellers’ cheques are generally safer to carry than cash. Once you arrive in Sackville you can open a bank account for everyday use. If you are carrying more than $10,000, you must declare it when you arrive at your first port of entry.

Lost or Delayed Luggage

In the event that you lose your checked luggage, make sure that you pack in your carry-on luggage an extra set of clothes and any other items that you will need when you arrive (toothbrush, underwear, soap). Do not pack money, your passport, your letter of introduction or anything valuable in your checked luggage. Place all your travel documents including your passport, letter of introduction and acceptance letter on your person.

If you arrive at the Moncton Airport and you have lost your checked baggage, go to the airline desk corresponding to your flight and explain what has happened. The airline will ask for a forwarding address; provide the International Centre address:
