Entry Visa Renewal

Citizens of these countries require an entry visa or TRV every time they enter Canada.

There are two types of entry visas: single entry and multiple entry. The single entry TRV allows you to enter Canada only once while the multiple entry TRV allows you to enter Canada as many times as you wish until it expires.

When you apply for your initial study permit you will be told by the Canadian Embassy in your region whether or not you must apply for an entry visa as well.

Travelling Between the United States and Canada

You do not need a Canadian entry visa or TRV if you have a valid Canadian temporary resident document (a study permit, for example) and an expired TRV. This means that if you travel to the United States and wish to return to Canada you do not need a TRV to come back into Canada. You may, however need a visa to enter the United States. You should contact the U.S. consulate in Halifax to find out if you need a visa to visit the U.S.

The International Centre recommends that students have valid entry visas every time they leave Canada.

This will generate a barcode page (page 5 of 5). You MUST include this last page (page 5 of 5) when you submit your application so that the Visa Office can process your application. Please note that the barcode page will not appear if you fill out your application by hand.

4. You must submit, along with your application, the following documents:
• The complete, validated application from (filled out online)
• Completed Document Checklist

5. Once you have all the necessary documents you should pay the application fee. The cost for a TRV renewal is: $150 (multiple entry) $75 (single entry)

There are two ways to do this:

Option A: ONLINE by credit card

To pay your application fee online click here.

Once you have paid the fee you will receive an official receipt in your email.

Option B: THROUGH YOUR BANK

To pay for your entry visa through your bank you can collect an IMM 5401 receipt (available at the International Centre) and fill out the information on the form.

Take the receipt to your bank and pay the fee.

The bank will keep the bottom part of the receipt. Attach the middle part of the receipt to you application. The top part of the receipt is yours to keep for your records.

6. Make an appointment with the International Advisor so that she can go over your documents with you.

7. Make sure you make copies of all your documents just in case you lose your package in the mail. When you go to the post office ensure that you purchase two pre-paid return courier envelopes. We recommend Canada Post’s Xpresspost envelopes with a tracking number so that you will be able to track your package.

Fold the second envelope and put it inside the first one together with your application and passport, then write your mailing address on the mailing slip. Your passport will return in the folded envelope.

Do not forget to fill out two address slips so that your passport can be returned to you without getting lost.
