Examination and Midterm Accommodations
The International Centre offers accommodations to international students
for whom English is not their first language. Students in their first
year of studies may make a request for extra time on exams or use of a
dictionary or translation device. The final right to grant these permissions
lies with the professor. For more information about applying for exam
accommodations please come in and talk with the International Advisor.
Do I qualify for extra time or use of a dictionary in my exam?
If you are an International Student spending you first calendar year in
Canada and whose first language is not English, or if you were not educated
in English then you may qualify for exam accommodations.
How do I apply for exam accommodations?
To apply for this service you must visit the International Advisor’s
office and collect an application form from her office. You must do this
in person as the International Advisor will only give a form to the student
requesting the service. This form must be filled in and returned to the
International Advisor 5 business days before your midterm and 1 month
before final exams are written.
Why was my application denied?
The decision to allow examination accommodations does not lie with the
International Advisor but with your professor. If your professor feels
that you do not need extra time he is not obligated to allow it. If this
happens, you will have to write your midterm or exam with the rest of
the class.
How much extra time will I get?
The amount of extra time on your exam depends on your professor and the
exam that you are writing. Extra time may be as little as 10 minutes or
as much as time and a half.
