Preparing to leave MTA

Once you are close to completing your studies at Mount Allison you will have to think about what you will do after graduation. This can sometimes be both an exciting and frustrating time, especially if you are not entirely sure what you would like to do after you receive your diploma.

The Graduation Preparation Series

The GPS program is specifically designed to help senior-level international students plan and prepare for their final year at Mount Allison, as well as to prepare them for their life as a new graduate in a professional working environment.

Preparing to Leave

As an international student you have a number of options at your disposal. You may choose to:

Graduate Studies

If you would like to continue your education and pursue graduate studies you may need to start applying as early as November. If you would like more information about applying for graduate opportunities you can contact the Career Services Co-ordinator, Scott Yorke, by email: syorke@mta.ca.
It is important that you extend your study permit so that it does not expire before you can start your graduate studies. If you have any questions about renewing you study permit you can look at the immigration page on this website or contact the International Advisor.

Returning to your home country

Many students who return home after studying abroad experience “reverse culture shock”. This is sometimes manifested in a graduate’s inability to reintegrate into his/her home culture/lifestyle, especially if you have not been back home for some time. This is quite normal and, with time, you will begin to readjust to life again. Stay in contact with your university friends and join an alumni group in your area and, if you have the chance, come back and visit.
