Claiming Prescriptions

If your doctor gives you a prescription for medicine you will have to fill the prescription at a pharmacy. There are two pharmacies downtown (Jean Coutu and the Corner Drugstore). Usually these pharmacies will be familiar with StudentGuard and will be able to bill StudentGuard directly for any prescription medicines that you buy. Sometimes you may be required to pay first before you can claim any money back from StudentGuard. When this happens you will have to fill out a claim form.

Where do I get a claim form?

When you receive you health card you should receive a personalized claim form. You can also get a claim form from the International Centre or online at the StudentGuard website: www.guard.me.

How do I get my money back?

In order to claim any money from StudentGuard you must complete the claim form and mail it to them along with any receipts. When you visit the dentist, you should always call the insurance company first (their toll-free telephone number is on the back of your insurance card) to make sure the procedure you are having done is covered by your policy. Please note that you may have to wait at least 3 weeks for the processing of your claim. If at any time you are wondering about the status of your claim, please call the telephone number on your insurance card.

If you have any questions about how to complete your claim form, please contact the International Advisor via e-mail: international_advisor@mta.ca or call 506-364-2112.
