Introduction to Hardware and Software: The Ins and Outs of Computers
Everyone has used a computer, but this is a chance to understand the how and why. From hardware to software, students will learn proper computer lingo and get a basic understanding of how computers work and potential troubleshooting techniques.
Mastering Windows XP: Hints and tips for organization and time saving tools
Knowing your operating system inside and out will save you time and make you much more efficient. Discover great hints and tricks to keep your OS running quickly and find out some great multitasking techniques to keep your efficiency high. Having a thorough understanding of your OS is the first step to becoming an advanced computer user.
Intro to Microsoft Word: Putting Word to its full potential
Microsoft Word is perhaps one of the most used software programs of all time. In this session you will learn basic to advanced techniques to help you take full advantage of this seemingly one dimensional program. Peel back the layers of Word and master the amazing features of this program which will help you in the future to create better looking resumes, essays, posters, mail outs and more.
Intro to PowerPoint: Making an attractive, sleek presentation in no time
PowerPoint has increasingly been an increasingly critical skill for students of today and tomorrow to have a grasp of. Students will learn how to create better looking, smoother and more efficient PowerPoint presentations. Inserting photos, clipart, audio and video will be taught as well as more advanced features, sure to impress teachers and employers for years to come.
Into to Excel: Making spreadsheets exciting and useful for daily tasks
From the outset, Excel seems like a very bland and single use program. During this session students will learn how efficient and time saving Excel can be. Creating everything from a personal budget, to basic inventory uses and calculating marks, Excel can be a useful tool and has increased use in the classroom and in the workplace.
Into to Digital Photography: How to use your digital camera to capture great shots and how to transfer and edit photos on your computer
Nowadays just about everyone has a digital camera, but lack the ability to take full advantage of it. This session will give students the basics of photography, an opportunity to take some shots in picturesque Sackville and then the skills to transfer them to a computer. Students will then learn basic photo editing skills and great online tools.
Into to Graphic Design: How to use Adobe Photoshop to fix photos, make posters and more
The world of Graphic Design is an expansive one which can range from a hobby right through to a professional career. In this session students will learn the basics of graphic design intended for both web and print, as well as composition, layout, photo manipulation and more with the industry standard Adobe Photoshop package.
Into to Web Design: Using Adobe Dreamweaver to make a quick and easy website + the Wiki revolution – using Wiki sites to make websites in no time
In this session students will learn the basics of web design using the hugely popular Dreamweaver WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) software package. Students will learn how to layout and design a website locally and then how to go about making it “live” on the internet. Students will also learn about the popular “Wiki” style of website and have an opportunity to see the pros and cons of each.
Intro to Photo Story: How to make simple videos as simply as making a PowerPoint Presentation
During this session students will learn about the very fun and easy to use Photo Story program. Think of it as a hybrid between a PowerPoint slide show and a movie, with the ability to add music and/or vocal tracks. A fun, quick and easy way to compile a more dynamic slideshow to show off short video clips or photos.
Intro to Movie Maker: Using this great tool to put together professional looking videos!
In our final session students will have an opportunity to make video shorts using the extremely user friendly Movie Maker. Students will have a chance to use their digital cameras to shoot short clips and then compile them into Movie Maker and use effects, music and sound, subtitles and credits. Students will learn how to embed these videos into websites or YouTube.
About the Instructor
Adam Binet is presently a high school teacher in Moncton, NB. Throughout his career he has taught numerous courses and sessions on technology and computer related topics ranging from buying and selling on eBay, to computer science and everything in between. Over the past decade Adam has taught in Adult High Schools, traditional high schools, tutored small business on computer use and has founded his own web and graphic design company in 2004. Adam lives, eats and breaths technology and his passion, excitement and breadth of knowledge of all things tech will be sure to entertain and enlighten your child!
