Gymnastics The first awards for sporting excellence at Mount Allison were handed out in University men's gymnastics in 1887. That year, six prizes were distributed, including a gold and two silver medals, and prizes donated by town merchants. In 1895, Halifax merchant Jairus Hart donated $100 to be distributed among the undergraduate class. These medals and prizes continued to be awarded through to 1897. Students at the Male Academy, meanwhile, who held annual gymnastics exhibitions and competitions during Mount Allison's closing week ceremonies between 1895 and 1911, competed for a $5 gold piece awarded by the principal of the school for first place. |
