Gass, Daisy L. |
Daisy Lilian Gass, class of 1911, from Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia, excelled in two sports white attending Mount Allison: basketball and tennis. She was selected captain of the University women’s basketball team for three years between 1909 and 1911. As captain, she led a combined University-Ladies' College team for Mount Allison’s first, and perhaps Canada’s first intercollegiate match in women's basketball, which was played against the University of New Brunswick on 2 November 1910. Mount Allison defeated their visiting opponent 19-4. In summer 1911, Gass also competed at a YWCA tennis championship against female players from ten other colleges in Muskoka, Ontario, and won. In 1914, she joined the teaching staff of the Trafalgar Institute in Montreal. | |
