Cricket |
Demise Several factors contributed to cricket's demise at Mount Allison. Although cricket was played on campus whenever the weather permitted, either in the spring or autumn, it was traditionally a summer sport. Intercollegiate competition also did not begin at Mount Allison until 1887, when the school's baseball team played St. Joseph's College in Memramcook, New Brunswick. Finally, there were no organized athletic associations at Mount Allison until 1884, when the Athletic Club was formed and took over cricket. Other sports, however, such as baseball and rugby football, were ascending at the same time as the Athletic Club's formation, and soon replaced cricket in terms of popularity at Mount Allison. | ||
