About
The Women's Studies Programme and the History Department at Mount Allison University are proud to present the online publication of ‘We were here:' Exploratory Essays on Women's History at Mount Allison University . As an investigative collection of undergraduate student essays from the Special Topics seminar on Canadian Women's History (HIST 4951) 2005-2007, it covers a wide array of topics on the history of local women at Mount Allison University and in the town of Sackville .
The achievement of this collection is threefold:1) in providing senior undergraduate students the experience of conducting original research - using both archival and oral history methods - thereby contributing towards the creation of historical knowledge at the local / regional level;
2) furnishing the opportunity to employ critical feminist approaches to historical research – especially in relation to the theories and methodologies guiding their research process within a Canadian women's history context;
3) and finally, honoring the memory of Mary Electa Adams and her substantial contribution to Mount Allison University as a progressive educator of women.
We gratefully acknowledge the funding and overall support of The Purdy Crawford Teaching Centre (PCTC)in making this online publication available.
