David J. Lieske, Ph.D.
David is widely interested in environmental modelling using GIS, specifically, how spatial information (e.g., GIS data, remote sensing imagery) can be used to assist and inform environmental planning and decision making.

His current research interests include: species distribution modelling, environmental monitoring and assessment, simulation modelling, and GIS.

MSc Opportunity in Species Modelling at Mount Allison University

The Department of Geography and Environment, Mount Allison University, has an opportunity for a Master’s student interested in modeling and mapping the distribution of the American Black Duck (Anas rubripes) in agricultural landscapes in maritime Canada. This project is funded through a partnership by the Black Duck Joint Venture (BDJV), and the provincial governments of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and PEI.

Students involved in this project should be self motivated, with demonstrable interest/aptitude/experience in quantitative statistical methods. Familiarity with GIS is required, and use of the R Statistical Package is a desired but not necessary prerequisite.

This opportunity will start in the upcoming academic year (September 2011 to September 2013). Please contact Dr. David Lieske (dlieske@mta.ca) with three materials: (1) CV, (2) cover letter, and (3) a brief sample of your writing (e.g., section of a favourite term paper, chapter from honor’s thesis).
