Credit: 1 credit, full-year course [Fall & Winter]
Rehearsal time: Tuesday 6 to 8:30 p.m. Additional sectional rehearsals as needed.
Location: MYB Conservatory Brunton Auditorium

Directed by Prof. James Kalyn, the Mount A Jazz Ensemble performs four times a year and strives to create a balance between having fun and achieving a high standard of musicianship. Non-music majors and community members are welcome to audition.

Please sign-up outside MYB Conservatory Room 108. Every participant must audition for the ensemble; these auditions determine acceptance and placement within the ensemble. Vocalists are welcome to audition as well but cannot receive credit for the ensemble. Please see Audition Guidelines and Audition Materials below, and contact Prof. Kalyn if you have questions. 

Audition dates

Sunday September 2, 1-5 pm

Monday Sept. 3, 9 am-5 pm
Note: percussionists must audition between 4-5 pm, in the Band Room

Tuesday Sept. 4, 1-5 pm, 7-9 pm

Wed. Sept. 5, 10 am-12 pm, 1-3 pm

First rehearsal: Tuesday Sept. 10, 6:00 pm, Brunton 

All auditions will take place in MYB Conservatory Brunton Auditorium.

Audition Materials (available after June 8)

Audition requirements and materials are provided below as a downloadable PDF. Printed copies are also available in MYB Conservatory Rm. 108. Prepare the excerpts slowly and carefully, paying attention to detail such as articulation and tuning. If you think the excerpts are too difficult please contact Prof. Kalyn directly. He will discuss the process with you and may provide alternative materials.
