The 3C Campaign will help prevent the spread of communicable diseases:

  • Clean — wash your hands regularly and avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth
  • Cover — cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or the crook of your arm
  • Contain — contain your illness; stay home and rest

Other steps that will help keep you healthy:

  • Keep up-to-date on vaccinations
  • Try to avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Practice good health habits — get plenty of sleep, stay active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food

Create a cold and flu kit
If you do come down with a cold or the flu, it helps to be prepared. Keep the following items on hand:

  • Fluids — water, sports drinks, ginger ale (for nausea), herbal tea, broth-based soups, or ice pops
  • Honey — honey can help reduce coughing, have it off the spoon or add it to tea
  • Medication — fever reducers like acetaminophen and ibuprofen and cold and sinus medications
  • Cough drops
  • Thermometer
  • Tissues
  • Hand sanitizer

When there is an outbreak or the potential for an outbreak of a communicable disease on campus, the University will notify you and provide information on:

  • symptoms
  • steps to take to prevent spreading or acquiring the illness
  • what to do if you suspect you have contracted the illness

Monitor the health alerts page for more information on outbreaks or potential outbreaks.
