The Killam Undergraduate Fellowships for Canadians
The Killam Fellowships Program provides an opportunity for exceptional undergraduate students from universities in Canada to spend either one semester or a full academic year as an exchange student in the United States.
Mount Allison students may participate in the program either as a direct exchange student (registering at their home university, paying their home fees, and attending the host university as an exchange visitor) or as a self-placed visiting student (registering at the host university and paying host tuition fees).
Mount Allison students interested in the direct exchange program must be registered as a full-time student and be planning to return to full-time academic studies in the following year at Mount Allison University.
The Killam Fellowships Program provides a cash award of $5,000 US per semester ($10,000 for the full academic year), a three-day orientation in Ottawa, and a three-day spring seminar in Washington. In addition, the Foundation provides all Killam Fellows with a health insurance allowance of $500 US. All Killam Fellows are also eligible to apply for a mobility (in-country travel) grant in an amount not to exceed $800 US. The idea of the mobility initiative is to allow students to undertake an educational field trip, providing the Fellows with the opportunity to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the culture of the United States.
The next competition is for awards to be taken up in the 2019-20 academic year (September 2019 or January 2020). The competition is now open and the application must be submitted according to the internal deadline is Thursday, December 20, 2018.
Mount Allison students who are interested in applying for a Killam Fellowship must complete the application and submit it to the Mount Allison International Centre by December 20th 2018. Applicants will be interviewed and recommended internally before being sent to the Killam office for final decision.
A completed application consists of:
- Killam application form
- one-page personal statement
- CV or resumé
- list of interested courses (acc. to preferred universities)
- two reference forms
- official transcript
- photocopy of passport or birth certificate.
Please talk to the Killam program advisor and/or the International Programs Coordinator if you want
clarification on any of these items or strategies about how to make a stronger
application. Mount Allison students should be careful to follow the "Direct Exchange Program" application instructions as posted on the Killam Fellowship website.
