Welcome to First @ MtA Preview Days for First Generation Students, Aug. 10-11, 2018!

Friends on campusFirst generation students are the first generation of their families to attend post-secondary education. Mount Allison has organized two days of activities designed to familiarize new first generation students with the university and Mount Allison community.

Students will participate in hands-on workshops on:

  • what to expect at university
  • how to talk to professors
  • where to find free academic resources and support
  • navigating financial aid
  • accessing campus resources
  • advising and registration support

Students will have the opportunity to connect with other first generation students through activities, including an overnight stay in residence, a trip to Sackville's Farmer's Market, and a tour of campus, including your actual classrooms.

You and your parents are also invited to attend a dinner reception with Mount Allison professors. These professors were themselves first generation students, and many will be part of a first generation student mentor program - come meet your professors and sign up for our mentor program!

For Parents, Too!

First @ MtA isn't just for students - we have information and activities for parents, too. Parents of first generation students are invited to attend an information session Friday afternoon. Following the information session will be a reception for first generation students, parents, deans, staff, and first generation Mount Allison. You will have a chance to chat with the professors and staff who will be working with your children next year.

Accommodations can be made to stay overnight in residence, free of charge. Parents will be housed in a separate wing from students.
