If you are a prospective Bachelor of Music student, you must audition as part of your application. An audition is not required of applicants for BA (honours, major, or minor in Music) programs.

Auditions are 20 minutes in length. Please read the audition requirements for each instrument before your audition.

On-campus audition dates for those seeking admission in Fall 2019

  • Early audition day: Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019 (Deadline for applications for early audition: Monday, Jan. 7, 2019)
  • Saturday, March 16, 2019
  • Saturday, March 23, 2019

Singers and instrumentalists must perform with a collaborative pianist. You may provide your own pianist, or we may provide one for a fee of $50 with reasonable notice. You may audition on one or more instruments.
If you cannot come to Mount Allison during one of these audition days, the Music department will try to accommodate you on another date. After we receive your application, we shall contact you to arrange a time for your audition.
Submitting an audio or video recording
If you are unable to visit Mount Allison for an on-campus audition, you may submit an audio or video recording instead.

You may e-mail audition files directly to music@mta.ca or provide a link to an online file hosting service such as Dropbox.

Acceptable formats include:

  • Audio files: .aac, .aif, .aiff, .iff, .fla, .m4a, .mpa, .mp3, .ra, .wav, .wma
  • Video files: .avi, .flv, .m1v, .m2v, .m4v, .mkv, .mov, .mpeg, .mpg, .mp4, .wmv

You may also provide a link to an online streaming site such as YouTube, or send an audio CD or video DVD by mail. Please ensure CDs and DVDs are playable on standard North American equipment.

While the department does not expect professional level production quality, it is important that your materials are of high audio quality for the panel to clearly hear and assess your performance level. The recording should be recent (within six months) and without digital editing. The deadline for receiving your recorded audition is Friday, March 15, 2019.
Please do not hesitate to contact the department of Music with any questions about repertoire, the audition process, or to arrange a free lesson: music@mta.ca or (506) 364-2374.
