Lt. Col. (ret.) Alex Morrison of Sydney, NS, received Mount Allison's Lifetime Achievement Alumni Award at Reunion Weekend 2013.
Morrison served in the Canadian Army for more than 30 years. He spent six years as the military advisor to the Canadian permanent representative to the United Nations (UN), acting as counsellor and minister-counsellor at the permanent mission of Canada to the UN Security Council, rapporteur-general of the international conference on the relationship between disarmament and development, and vice-chairman of the UN peacekeeping committee.
Following his retirement, Morrison served as president of the Canadian Institute of Strategic Studies and founding president of the Pearson Peacekeeping Centre.
In those capacities, he has been active nationally and internationally promoting all aspects of peace, security, and stability.

Morrison was awarded the Lester B. Pearson Peace Medal for his accomplishments and is the author, co-author, or editor of more than 30 books.
