Position description

The Department of English at Mount Allison University invites applications for the following part-time, stipendiary positions:

ENGL 1201B: Introduction to Principles of Literary Analysis, Fall 2024: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 12:30 p.m. to 1:20: p.m. (3 contact hours per week) with an approximate class size of 45.

ENGL 1201D: Introduction to Principles of Literary Analysis, Fall 2024: Tuesday and Thursday, 1:00 p.m. to 2:20 p.m. (3 contact hours per week) with an approximate class size of 45.

ENGL 1201E: Introduction to Principles of Literary Analysis, Winter 2025: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 2:30 p.m. to 3:20 p.m. (3 contact hours per week) with an approximate class size of 45.

ENGL 1201F: Introduction to Principles of Literary Analysis, Winter 2025: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 11:30 a.m. to 12: 20 a.m. (3 contact hours per week) with an approximate class size of 45.


Note: ENGL 1201 is offered in multiple sections each year, and the course introduces students to critical and academic approaches to reading, writing, and thinking about literature. Each section has its own reading list, set by the individual instructor, and includes a balanced representation of prose fiction, poetry, and drama drawn from a range of historical periods. Each section offers a range of writing opportunities. Applicants may apply to one or more sections, up to a maximum of four.

ENGL 3211A: Advanced Studies in Shakespeare, Winter 2025 Tuesday and Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 11:20 a.m. (3 contact hours per week) with an approximate class size of 30.

Note: ENGL 3211 offers the study of a selected number of Shakespeare’s plays at an advanced level, requiring students’ engagements with current issues in Shakespearean scholarship and criticism. Ideally, applicants will hold both a Ph.D. and a specialization in Shakespeare or Renaissance Drama.


Applicants should be experienced, versatile, and dedicated teachers with a graduate degree in English literature, preferably a doctorate, either in hand or near completion. Candidates should prepare a letter of application, a complete curriculum vitae, and a one-page description of their approach to teaching each course applied for, to be sent in electronic format to the following address:
