Student technician positions
Each year, 4 students are hired to work in the theatre as student technicians. There are four positions, outlined in the tab below. Please check back here later in the Winter Semester to find out how you can get involved next year.

Position descriptions — Motyer-Fancy Theatre technicians
General parameters
Technicians' stipends are set at $1,200 per annum. It is expected that they will devote around 96 hours of work in the theatre as outlined below and assigned by the production manager (PM).
Work will normally be expected to be performed on a regular weekly basis (at roughly four hours per week) except where specified by the PM. Any work performed in the theatre for credit in an academic course may not be double-counted as technicians' hours.
Technicians will meet weekly with the PM for the assignment of tasks. As well as their duties as described below they may be required to work as a group on a specific project.
The successful applicants for these positions will have demonstrated an interest in theatre and in the case of A,B, & C will have experience at Motyer-Fancy Theatre in at least one of these areas. For position D experience with computers, web design, and marketing would be an asset.
These positions are only open to students currently enrolled at Mount Allison University.
Positions
A) Costume/Painting Tech
This person will work with the resident designer in the area of costume and or painting, and will perform such tasks and duties as the designer assigns in consultation with the PM.
Such duties will include (but not be limited to):
- ensuring that the costume shop, costume storage and the Green Room are kept neat and orderly
- organizing crews
- some aspects of buying
This person will also be responsible for ensuring that the backstage area, including paint inventory and storage, is kept clean and orderly. Support of various specific production activities as required.
B) Front-of-House Tech
This person will work under the PM and will be responsible for production of programs, tickets, and printing of posters. The FOH Tech will oversee ticket sales, staffing of FOH, and ensuring that the lobby and auditorium are kept clean and tidy for performances.
This person is also responsible for ensuring that the props closet and mez storage areas are kept clean and orderly.
C) General Tech
This person will perform such duties as assigned from time to time by the PM, including (but not limited to): ensuring that the shop, electrical/sound room and booth are kept clean and tidy as well as maintaining inventories for these areas. Support of various specific production activities as required.
D) Web/Marketing Tech
This person will perform such duties as assigned from time to time by the PM and director of drama, including (but not limited to):
- ensuring the Drama website is updated on a timely basis as well as developing improvements and modifications to the site
- creation of archival videos for the current year shows
- facilitating the promotion of productions
This person will also run the marketing plan for the theatre and organize promotions.

Each winter, Drama Studies students (Major or Minor) can apply to take DRAM 4011: Advanced Theatrical Interpretation or DRAM 4951: Independent Study for the next academic year. Follow the link to learn more about these courses and their application requirements.
Crake Foundation support for drama
J.E.A Crake Fellowship in Drama
Established in 2001 through the generosity of the Crake Foundation, this fellowship brings to Mount Allison, from September to April, a theatre specialist who will direct a production, participate in drama courses, supervise student projects, and contribute to the Drama Studies program and the Motyer-Fancy Theatre in other ways appropriate to her or his expertise and experience.
Drama Graduate in Residence
This program, sponsored by the J.E.A. Crake Foundation, brings to the campus for a brief residency Mount Allison graduates who give workshops in areas of special interest, contribute to classes, and counsel on a one-to-one basis students who have a special interest in drama and theatre.
Crake Motyer-Fancy Theatre Workshops
This program complements and supports both the Drama Studies program and the theatre season.
