APPENDIX D: REQUESTING TITLES:
PROCEDURES
How to order Library materials:
Most academic departments have a Library Representative who is responsible
for keeping the department informed about Library developments. Within
the Library, Margaret Fancy (364-2212) has overall responsibility for collections
development, and in addition there are people with specific collections
responsibilities. These are:
General Social Sciences, Psychology
Ruth
Miller 364-2572
General Sciences, Education
Brian McNally 364-2237
Music, Fine Arts
Peter Higham 364-2561
Humanities
Anita Cannon, Margaret Fancy 364-2572, 364-2212
Government Documents
Brian McNally 364-2237
Procedures:
-
Faculty, staff and students fill out paper forms which are available from
departmental secretaries or from the acquisitions office in the technical
services area on the main floor of the Library.
-
Send orders to the Librarian responsible for the subject area, or to Margaret
Fancy who will direct them to the correct person. You do not need to
know the Library of Congress classification number, but we would appreciate
knowing as much as possible about the title. Also, we hope you will
check both the computer and card catalogues to make sure that we do not already
have the title. We will assign the account at the Library.
-
Orders which are placed appear in the public catalogue with a note confirming
the ordering date. So if you want to see if the order you sent to the
Library has been process and the order placed, simply look for it in the
computer catalogue.
-
When titles are received, this will be reflected in the catalogue. The
call number and location of the item will be present.
-
Orders which are not placed will be returned to the requestor with a reason
why the item was not ordered.
-
Please order material on a regular basis rather than saving up items to send
over later in the year. We order material in such a way as to ensure
that it arrives and is paid for by the end of the fiscal year. Thus
a fairly large majority of the available funds will be spent or committed
by January.
-
Library materials are not restricted to paper books. If you require
material in other formats, eg. audio CD, video, microform, etc. please make
sure that you indicate the format clearly on the order form.
If we can help you in any way with the technicalities of ordering, or if
you want to discuss collection guidelines and policies, please do not hesitate
to contact any one of us.
