APPENDIX G:  GIFT POLICY

  1. The Mount Allison University Library welcomes gifts-in-kind of books, manuscripts, etc. which will provide an added richness to the University's holdings for study and research.
  2. The Library reserves the right to select material which is appropriate to the collection and to choose the methods of housing and providing access which are consonant with our resources and mission.
  3. The Library will normally only accept gifts which do not duplicate material already present in the collection.  Any duplicate titles will be offered to other libraries through the National Library's duplicate exchange programme, or will be sold and the funds used to purchase new books.
  4. All titles kept by the Library will receive a book plate recording the name of the donor.
  5. Tax receipts for gifts-in-kind are provided by the External Relations Office.  Gifts of rare items may be dealt with under the Cultural Properties Import and Export Act.  In some cases the donor may be asked to provide an evaluation of the gift.
