Purdy Crawford ('52) mentors the
next generations of Canadian business
/ 13
urdy Crawford (CC, QC, BA, LLB, LLM) doesn't really identify with the title of
mentor, but there are many of Canada's foremost business leaders who would call
him just that. With more than five decades of experience as a lawyer and counsel with
Toronto firm Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt; Chairman and CEO of holding company Imasco Ltd.;
and board memberships aplenty, he has much to offer the next generations.
"In my world, the word mentor is very rarely used," Crawford says. "...I just call it as I see it."
Crawford hails from the small village of Five Islands, NS. He was educated primarily in
a two-room schoolhouse with just himself and five girls in his grade, before travelling to
nearby Bass River for high school, where he would meet his future wife Beatrice.
