Nancy Tucker has been teaching music in elementary schools since graduating from Mount Allison with a Bachelor of Music degree in 1976. She has taught in Manitoba, Ontario, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia and her teaching assignments have included both circuit and single-school positions. In 2014 she completed a Master of Education degree from Acadia University, in a new program that focused on curriculum studies with a music emphasis. She has also completed Level II Orff Teacher Training and has taught Level I for Orff Nova Scotia. She taught Elementary Methods once before, during the Fall 1995 term. She also taught Music Methods and supervised B. Ed. student practicum placements during the Winter term of 1997, for Mount Allison’s former Department of Education.

Her school teaching employs practices grounded in both the Kodály and Orff approaches. She has been a choral conductor for over thirty years with school, community, and church choirs. In 2000 she received an Excellence in Teaching Award from the Nova Scotia Teachers Union and the Chignecto Central Regional School Board. From 2005 to 2007 she was President of the Nova Scotia Music Educators’ Association. For the past two years she has been nominated for an Innovative Teaching Award by her school community.
