Aviation

This interdisciplinary major covers basic geography and environmental science, mathematics and computer science, and physics, and upper level courses from these disciplines plus credit for aviation courses studied at Moncton Flight College.

Entrance Requirements

Each prospective student for the Major in Aviation must meet the general admissions requirements of Mount Allison (section 3) and should declare at time of application.
Each prospective student for the Major in Aviation must provide evidence of English language proficiency by submitting one of the following test scores:
1. TOEFL score of 90 (internet test), 580 (paper test), 213 (computer test) (DI Code 0939) with no band score lower than 20;
2. International English Language Testing System - Academic (IELTS) score of 6.5 with no band score lower than 6*;
3. Canadian Academic English Test- Computer Edition (CAEL CE) minimum score of 70;
4. Cambridge English - Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) or Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) with a minimum Cambridge English Score of 176.
Unless a prospective student has provided evidence of English language proficiency by submitting one of Mount Allison's approved English language test scores, they will not be admitted to the Major in Aviation.
Each prospective student for the Major in Aviation must obtain and present a Transport Canada Category 1 medical certificate during their first year of study before commencing flight training in their second year of study.
Before beginning flight training, the Moncton Flight College requires all candidates who have not graduated from a Canadian English- speaking school to undergo a formal aviation language proficiency demonstration.

Note: The practical elements of the program may require training time outside the traditional September-April teaching period. Students should consult with the Program Advisor about the time commitment needed.

Interdisciplinary B.Sc. Program

MAJOR in Aviation is 78 credits earned as follows:

6	from MATH 1111, COMP 1631
6	from PHYS 1051, 1551
6	from GENS 1401, 2421
6	from Computer Science, GENS, Mathematics or Physics at the 2000 level chosen in consultation with the Program Advisor*
18	from Computer Science, GENS, Mathematics or Physics at the 3000/4000 level chosen in consultation with the Program Advisor*
36	credits twelve of which are designated at the 3000/4000 level as follows: from Moncton Flight College through completing the requirements for flight training outlined in the Handbook for the Mount Allison Bachelor of Science (Aviation) including the Commercial Pilot License with Multi-engine and Instrument Flight Rules ratings, or from Moncton Flight College by transfer after completion of the Diploma in Aviation Technology (Pilot), or from Confederation College by transfer after completion of the Aviation Flight Management Diploma

*Consultation with the Program Advisor must occur before the student's second year of study.

Before beginning flight training, normally at the beginning of the second year of study, students must have completed at least 24 credits (i.e. second-year standing) and they must hold and present to MFC a Transport Canada Category 1 medical certificate, normally by March 31 of their first year.

Before beginning flight training, the Moncton Flight College requires all candidates who have not graduated from a Canadian English speaking high school to undergo a formal aviation language proficiency demonstration. Normally, candidates must successfully complete the language proficiency demonstration at MFC by March 31 of their first year at Mount Allison. All candidates who graduate from a Canadian English-speaking high school will normally be exempt under an informal assessment, however the MFC Chief Flight Instructor may require any previously exempted or previously successful candidate to undergo formal testing at any time. The formal aviation language proficiency demonstration and Transport Canada Category 1 medical certificate will be assessed by May 31 after the first year, and students who are deemed to be ineligible for flight training will be notified and de-registered from the degree program/major.
